The MARIA study is a randomized clinical trial funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. The study is designed to measure the effectiveness of a brief intervention, brief intervention with booster, and treatment as usual in trauma patients whose injury may have been alcohol-related. The brief intervention is based on the principles of motivational interviewing (MI). One full-time clinician is needed to consent patients to participate in the research, conduct a survey and provide brief motivational interviewing-based intervention with patients. This experience will provide for the opportunity to work on a National Institute of Health funded grant that consists of direct patient contact with exposure to basic research principles in a clinical setting. Minimum education requirement is a Bachelor’s Degree in counseling, social work, public health or related field. Coursework towards a Master’s or PhD in a related field is preferred. Familiarity with brief interventions and/or motivational interviewing is a plus. Bilingual in English and Spanish is also a plus.
