The workshop will be taught by Melinda Hedgecorth, who is based in Sevilla, Spain.

Immerse yourself in flamenco’s soul and rhythm, whether for a few hours or the entire weekend. Learn postura (posture), brazeo and floreo (armwork), palmas (hand-clapping) and taconeo (footwork).

Take part in this incredible opportunity to discover the “flamenca” in you — even if you’ve never taken a flamenco class before or if you’re an experienced dancer.

About Melinda Hedgecorth
Melinda travels internationally to give workshops and performances as a guest artist or with her own group, Flamenco Mio. In 1999 she began yearly trips to Madrid and Jerez in Spain to cultivate a more profound understanding of flamenco, studying with talented teachers such as Mercedes Ruiz, Belen Fernandez and La Truco. Five years ago she moved to Sevilla and began to perform in the local tablaos (flamenco bars) and to participate in performances held in the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo. Although her imagination is spurred by artists such as Israel Galvan (one of the most important innovators of modern flamenco today), she is also very conscientious about maintaining the roots of flamenco in her movement and expression.

Wear a comfortable top, long practice skirt or regular circular skirt, flamenco shoes or sturdy shoes with wide medium heels (1½ to 3 inches), closed toes and hard soles (no platforms or stilettos). Men should wear sturdy shoes or low boots with 1 to 1 1/2 inch heels. No bare feet or sneakers.
